Gearbox bringing UE4 game to Wii U?

A new rumor has emerged from an IGN forums member. Whilst this is not the most reliable source, the rumor isn’t too farfetched and there’s no harm in reading it anyway. According to “monkeys with guns,” Gearbox Software, developers of Borderlands, Aliens Colonial Marines and more are working on an original IP being built with the Unreal Engine 4 and that this title will be released on multiple next generation consoles including the Wii U. Given Randy Pitchford’s high praise for Nintendo’s new console and the fact that Miyamoto is his favourite games developer in the world, it would be odd not to see a Wii U version of Gearboxes future titles so this rumor doesn’t seem all too unlikely. Here are the full details of the rumor:

What I “know:”

- Being developed by Gearbox Software
- It’s super duper early in development, it’s very “bare bones” at the moment.
- It’s being developed using the Unreal 4 engine.
- It’s a new IP, (currently) So it’s something we haven’t seen yet from them.
- It’s an FPS
- It’s multiplatform (duh) but the only version I specifically heard about was the Wii U version.

Other interesting tidbits:

- Supposedly their PS4 devkits recently had a meltdown and they’re awaiting new ones.

And of course, all things are subject to change, again this project is really very early in development, so who knows what will come of it

Wii U hard drive incompatibility fix

If you want to expand your Wii U’s memory but the Hard Drive you currently own isn’t being picked up by your Wii U (like mine did at first), there is a solution other than buying a Nintendo tested hard drive. You can purchase a USB Y cable such as the one shown in the picture which you can buy right here. Why this fixes the issue I’m not sure but I guess it has something to do with Nintendo’s recommendation that you purchase a hard drive that has its own external power source and the fact that these cables are specifically made to increase power and data connection between the hard drive and the connected device.

(Note: My first and only experience using this fix was to play “The Cave” demo directly from my hard drive. However I encountered frame rate drops and I’m not sure if this is because I was using a hard drive that wouldn’t normally be compatible with Wii U or if this is was simply a badly optimised game. If you also experienced frame drops in “The Cave”s demo please let me know in the comments)

Expect a Metroid and Metal Gear title soon for Wii U

This is the same image that originally leaked the new Wii U Yoshi title that was announced at the recent Nintendo Direct. The same direct also announced a new Super Mario game to be showcased at E3 and other titles on the list have already been announced such as Resident Evil. So far, unless this has all been a huge co-incidence, it is safe to assume that the entire list is leaking new Wii U games soon to be announced. Perhaps Dragon Quest 10 indicates a close by western release of the game, Final Fantasy could easily be Straight Right’s Wii U project to be published by Square Enix and Metroid could very well be Retro’s new title which will most likely be revealed at E3 2013.  At the end of the last Nintendo Direct, Mr Iwata assured us that more third party Wii U announcements were coming so expect these games (and hopefully more such as GTA V and Splinter Cell) to be announced soon.

Resident Evil Revelations coming to Wii U

The official nintendo magazine has revealed that Resident Evil Revelations, previously a Nintendo 3DS exclusive is being developed for Wii U. The remake will not only feature an HD makeover but also new enemies, a new difficulty and much more. More information will be released in the next edition of the ONM. The release date for RE Revelations on Wii U is the 24th of May in the UK.

Unepic on its way to Wii U eshop

Unepic, the indi game created by one man alone in the space of two years, has been approved by Nintendo for release on the Wii U eshop. The game’s official site explains that while it’s too soon to predict, the game may release in May 2013.

Wii U Nuketown 2025 Update

I have just contacted Activision in light of the recent removal of the Nuketown 2025 pre-order bonus from the official Black Ops 2 Wii U pre-order page. After demanding up-to-date information about whether or not the Wii U will be receiving the pre-order bonus, Activision’s “support agent” replied by saying:

At this time the content will not be offered for Wii-U. That is not to say that it [won't] become available in the future, but as of right now this is where it stands.

Ubisoft “believe”s in Wii U

During a recent interview with venturebeat.com, Ubisoft has discussed and re-enforced its strong support for the Wii U, explaining that it plans to continue supporting both casual and core gamers on the sytem even beyond the currently announced 8 games. When asked about future support for the system Ubisoft had the following to say:

GamesBeat: How much further into the future do you see your support continuing? Are you going to wait and see how everything is received at launch first?

Key: Well, we have a lot of titles, a lot of upside on the Wii U for Ubisoft. We’re going to be the number one third-party publisher. When Wii U becomes a hot machine, Ubisoft is going to be well-positioned. We have Rayman Legends in Q1, and we haven’t announced any other games beyond that, but… All we can say is that we’re all in on the machine. We believe in it.

GTA V not coming to PC and Wii U?

Pictures of new marketing material for GTA V have emerged and due to the lack of the Wii U logo among the PS3 and Xbox360, many have jumped to the conclusion that the game will not be releasing on the Wii U. However, it should be noted that the PC logo was not shown either and it would be quite ridiculous to assume that the game will not be coming to PC. Therefore there is still a decent chance Rockstar is developing a Wii U version of GTA V  as well as the inevitable PC version and that this announcement will come formally from the company itself. Regardless, it should be remembered that Mass Effect 3 was ported to the Wii U in just over two months and Rockstar may hold out to see Wii U sales before commencing development of a Wii U version which they will still have time to complete even if it begins after the launch of the system.

Gamestop Creates Temporary Splinter Cell Blacklist Wii U box

A Gamestop store has been given or has created their own Wii U Splinter Cell Blacklist box arts and are apparently taking pre orders for the game. Hiphopgamer1 has previously claimed to have been told about the Wii U version of the game months ago. We’ve seen retailers post incorrect listings on websites but to create a placeholder box art is quite extreme to be a mistake. Hopefully we will get official confirmation of a Wii U version of Splinter Cell Blacklist soon.
